Diets do not work, nor did they ever accomplish anything or will they ever meet a need. I guess these words sound cruel and ridiculous, and yes, I can see why. But dear friend, diets don’t work, they really don’t! Have I said it enough, or would you like to understand why?

The word diet simply means a cultural style of eating – it’s a type of food, a way of life and a healthy ideal. The problem with this word however, represents a strict connotation of what we are supposed to do. Honestly, the best policy for each one of us varies greatly. What I mean is, what you might need in vitamins and nutrients, may be different from what I need.

So, then society caters each diet to a specific regimen, health issue or need. This may seem to be a better option, but it still falls short. That’s because utilizing a temporary solution will never fit a permanent need. If you want to be healthy, you must ditch the diet and stick to the lifestyle change plans. This is where you will see the most success in your life.

Since diets don’t work, what shall we do?

There are a few ways to improve your lifestyle, eating habits and fitness regimen, without even utilizing any sort of diet plan. These options will help you change your mindset instead of your choice in foods. Take a few moments and check out these ideas, options and successful choices.

Change the way you look at food

The first thing you want to do is change the way you see the food you eat. You cannot see food as some reward or crutch, neither can you see it as a comforting aspect of your hectic day. Food was created and grown for the purpose of providing nutrition for your body. If you learn to see food as a tool of life, you will understand why some foods, mainly manufactured ones and foods with unhealthy additives, are tools of destruction.

Healthy, organic foods are successful tools in shaping and firming your physique. What’s more, they are tools that help you maintain optimal health so you can dodge conditions such as heart failure, diabetes and even cancer. Change how you see your grains, vegetables and proteins, and you will change the way you feel about food as well.

Improve one habit at a time

Changing your lifestyle will also make you want to eliminate all bad food products from your meals. Processed foods, fried foods and products high in sugar can do irreparable damage to your health. You will want to do away with such foods as quickly as possible. But don’t sweat it! You won’t be able to successfully go cold turkey without the threat of relapse.

A good system to go by is the one-at-a-time elimination idea. Try getting rid of sodas first. For some people, this is extremely difficult- it’s almost impossible for ones who are addicted to caffeine. After that, try eliminating pastries or friend foods. Over time, you will have done away with many detrimental foods and you will notice your health improving drastically.

Be happy

Now, I guess this is easier said than done, and you might me a little irritated by that title, but your mood directly affects the way you eat. If you can find a way to improve your mood, or bring more happiness into your life, you will start to eat better as well. Most people who are happy mentally, have more success at improving the way they eat.

Try doing things that make you happy, even if other people don’t agree with you. Although this might be stressful to them, it will help you build the ability to say “no” at times, and gain a bit of self-confidence. All this effort will improve your food choices and also, lower your levels of cortisol.

Let’s face it! It just takes time!

There are no quick fixes to improving your health and lifestyle. Everything that is permanent takes patience. When you learn to implement these ideas into your daily life, you will begin to see a change in your outlook on nourishment. Although there is no permanent solution in dieting, there is a new life waiting for you when you decide to get started. Good luck!
